When you sync photos with ITunes to another device, ITunes has the nast habit of creating huge amounts (Gigabytes) of crufty date in the IPhoto directory. Which makes it hard to backup the IPhoto directory because it is about 50% bigger than it needs to be if you sync all your photos.

I imported a JPEG2000 photo into IPhoto 09. Unfortunately, after an edit, it saves the image as JPEG, not JPEG2000, at 50% more space. I could not wait to try IPhoto 09 Places Features. I have many geotagged photos in my IPhoto database (I don’t know how many - keep reading). Like most IPhoto users who have geotagged photos, the workflow has been:
import photos into IPhoto
make any edits using internal editor or external editor like GIMP or Photoshop Elements.

Import a JPEG2000 image and edit it — IPhoto 08 saves the modified image as plain old jpeg. So much for converting all my images from the camera to JPEG2000 before import.
After I import a photo into IPhoto, I frequently do a quick edit - usually just enhancing shadows, exposure, maybe a crop or colour adjustments.
