Three Hours To Edit and Send an Email In Lotus Notes
“Lotus Notes has one of the most unpleasant and unwelcoming User Experiences this side of a medium-security prison where the warden has aspirations towards interior design and art instruction. “– Joe Lamantia
I spent about an hour last week drafting an email, and I sent it off to someone else for marketing. She made some edits and sent it back to me. Because I was using Lotus Notes, there was absolutely no way to copy the original message with her edits into a new email - I spent over an trying this. You would think one could just copy the text I wanted to send into a new message, but it can’t be done. I checked to be sure my editor (the person) had not signed the message or set any other delivery preference that would thwart me (she hadn’t). I had two other people come to my desk and try it - they could not do it either.
Finally, I sent the message out via the internet to another user, who sent it back to me. It arrived in plaintext. I was able to copy and paste that into a new message and reformat it and send it. Of course, despite my mail preference set to HTML, the recipients only receive plain text, with all formatting, bullets, etc. removed.
An aside - One of the workers in my office remarked to me last week she found Lotus Notes Todos “User Friendly”. Quite a few of my colleagues don’t mind Lotus at all - they used to use Netscape mail, which apparently had its own challenges. However, those of my colleagues who have previously used Outlook find themselves constantly frustrated.
Just Google for Lotus Notes to see the comments on it, lots of frustration expressed. Try the same for Microsoft Outlook, from the company everybody likes to bash, and see if you find anything.
