Lotus Notes Document Database Useful
I was very surprised to find the Document Database built into Lotus Notes given my overall experience with the product.
Creating a Document Database gives you an easy way to organize your files and intermingle files with text notes (i.e. by dropping them into a note in the database), and you can categorize them, and link them together. It reminds me a lot of Yojimbo, except Yojimbo is limited to PDF and text storage. Yojimbo is also not installed on my Citrix client image.
The document database some useful views, including a category view. If tools like Yojimbo or Wiki appeal to you, and you use Lotus Notes, you might actually enjoy (and be more productive with) the notes Document Database. It is a lot more convenient to drop files into a note than it is to upload them into a Wiki as attachments.
Now, if I could just share my Document Database with my assistant. I don’t think its possible, because I can’t publish to a Notes server. Is it safe to share a database using the file system?
