Bookmarking RealSimple

I wanted to bookmark RealSimple in del.icio.us, but as soon as I navigate to their web site, I am redirected to http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/homepage/flash/0,23022,,00.shtml, which I suspect is no cool URI — I’d be surprised if the resource at http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/homepage/flash/0,23022,,00.shtml is still around in 5 years even though the site will be.

Safari vs. Firefox

I have been using Max OSX for about a year and never gave Safari a chance - the only time I used it was to download Firefox.
I recently decided to give Safari a try after finding Firefox unreliable on the mac, with no improvement after the latest release. I find Firefox hangs up a [...]

Online backup service

The mozy service suggests the alternatives to using Mozy including:

Run a cron job of rsync, gzip and mcrypt piped over ssh to your friend’s server over his DSL line.

I had to laugh. I avoided (so far) rsync & ssh in order to backup some key files (photo database and home movies) to some relatives [...]

I chuckled when I saw the motivational poster in the background on the introduction of The Office.

MPEG-1 VS MPEG-4

I ran a brief test using MPEGStreamclip to convert the clips from my Sony camera from MPEG-1 to MPEG-4. With the options I picked (quality slider default, multi-pass, mono audio at around 100kbps) I found the reencoded files were 1/3 of the size of the originals.

MPEGStreamClip for Video Clips From Digital Cameras

I have been using MPEG Streamclip a lot lately. I recently discovered version 1.7 has a batch facility under the list menu, which makes it a whole lot easier to convert a set of existing clips.
Video clips from digital cameras are often huge because they are not compressed very well, and may have audio [...]

Bluehost WordPress Upgrade and PHPEsp Install

My hosting provider is BlueHost.  I orignally picked them because it was easy to install wordpress.
I avoided the upgrade to the 2.x version from the 1.x version for months.   I finally logged in to the BlueHost control panel,  started the “fantistico” feature to install PHPEsp (see below), and was prompted to perform the upgrade [...]

6 Months Without Windows Mobile

It is about six months since I gave up trying to make my Dell Axim X50 work. Looking back, I just can’t believe how much time I wasted on the thing, trying to get it to sync a few tasks or address book entries. I don’t miss my Axim, ActiveSync, or [...]

Motorolla PVRs Almost Production Quality

I wrote a awhile back about the need to reboot my PVR once in a while. The PVR I have is a Motorolla DCT6412 III.
There have been a few other issues with it as well:

Recordings frequently get interrupted. I think its from user error though I am not sure. [...]
