Impressive Response from SmugMug
I just noticed my email today regarding my recent uploader woes:
Hi Doug,
I am sorry to invade your inbox, but I noticed your blog post regarding
your uploading woes with SmugMug. I am the Product Manager at SmugMug,
and hopefully can help you get it sorted out if you want the assistance.I have a few questions to try and track down where the problem is. First
off, do you happen to know what version of the OS X uploader you are
using? There is a new version in the last several months that makes
significant improvements over the older version. It allows much easier
uploading from iPhoto for one, and also keeps the data you have entered
in iPhoto (caption or title for instance). It doesn’t write those to
IPTC data, but it does transmit them to SmugMug to keep them. Also, when you say the Universal Drag and Drop failed, are you getting
an error message of any type? Any details on the failure would help us
track down what is going on.I am so sorry you have been having so many problems!
Pretty impressive for a firm to look at blogs. After all, how often do you report a bug directly to a vendor (if you can figure out how) only to have the report go into a black hole.
I was using the latest drag and drop uploader and version 1.0 of the OSX Uploader. Turns out there is a 2.0 version. First time I used it, it failed with an unknown user error, then totally crashed. Second time, it seems to be working — its currently on photo 3 of 35 for a test upload — doh! it died again, “Error contacting smugmug invalid user”.
Grr.
