getAbstract and Wiki

getAbstract
looks like an expensive but potentially valuable service for those who try and read a lot of nonfiction. A similar service purports to publish mind maps for business books.
I could see a Wiki, maybe even Wikipedia, being a plausible threat to these services.

Who Owns Your Calendar?

The buzz about Google Calendar and my experience with enterprise calendaring systems like Outlook and Lotus notes had me thinking a bit. Why does the corporation own your Calendar?
Tim Bray writes about a solution to share your calendar between family members. I dare you to replicate it. And woe to you who [...]

Subversion Experiment

I have been doing a fair bit of writing lately, storing the content in xml and html. I like to have a version history of any document I edit in case I decide to revert some changes.
In the past I have used RCS and perforce for this purpose in environments provided by [...]

More on Bringing Clips From a Digital Camera Into IMovie

I wrote about a way to bring MPEG video clips from a digital camera into IMovie without losing the audio. The problem with this is when you bring the audio in separately, its not bound to the video clip, but overlayed. They can get out of sync if you say, shorten or split [...]

Blackberry Desktop Breaks

I installed the Blackberry Desktop, then tried three times to install the service pack. Three times I had to hard-reset my PC, so I have given up on the service pack.
Synchronized the address book and tasks, deleted 200 tasks from outlook no longer relevant and resynced. It seemed to work. That is [...]

Switching from Axim to Blackberry

I have written about the numerous problems with ActiveSync. I haven’t successfuly synced my PDA to my PC in months.
Manually copying calendar entries from Lotus Notes to my PDA is error prone and time consuming. My employers’s technology only supports synchronizing to Blackberrys (we are on a Citrix platform rather than desktops), so [...]
