Powder Tour 2002
Way back in 2002 I built a web site for the photos of the Powder Tour 2002 Ski Trip (an annual event to Alberta and Eastern BC Ski Hills). At the time I used RDFPic to embed captions and titles in the photos in jpeg comments, and then a script (probably this one) to generate static html. I pared down the photos last night to a much smaller subset and posted them at smugmug because it is simpler for me to maintain photos this way.
When I first created the site in 2002, I posted a note on usenet trying to identify one of the subjects of a photo. The note and ensuing firestorm is archived by google. It turned out there was a bug of some sort in Internet Explorer at the time - some folks would find IE crashed, some that their whole OS needed rebooting (Win9X users), some would find IE just wouldn’t work well and help/about no longer displayed any text. I thought it was a buffer overrun and tried to report it to Microsoft as a security concern through several channels and never received a response. I do believe the problem was corrected in 2004 or 2005.
This is the photo here, one of my favorites from the trip:
