Converting PDF to HTML or RTF With Preview

I found with the Preview program on Mac OSX, I can select the entire text and paste into TextEdit and then save as RTF or HTML. This is find for most of the material I read (no images of significance in the PDFs).

Unfortunately, plucker documents seem garbeled in VadeMecum even though inspection of the html looks ok. The RTF version also looks garbled when viewed in PocketWord. Maybe its an encoding issue. Reading plain html on the PocketPc works well except for lack of a bookmark feature, so I’ll get by for now.

I am guessing their is an opportunity to script this - most mac apps are scriptable so I’ll have to see about Preview. Also, I wonder if the same technique might work on Windows. I don’t recall offhand if you can select the entire text of a PDF document in FoxitReader (which I suggest you should check out) or Acrobat reader.
