Maps and Texts With Sunrise, Plucker, and AvantGo

I spent a fair bit of time trying to convert some documents I have to PDA format in Power Point, Word, and PDF. Some Word documents wouldn’t convert to reader (.lit) format due to nested tables, so I had to save them as HTML, then use plucker to convert them. PDFs had to be converted with pdftohtml. My files were scattered throughout a directory tree, and had to be added one by one into Sunrise (Sunrise wasn’t really designed for this use case - it shines on saving web pages for viewing on a PDA later). There are a lot of mouse clicks, it takes a couple minutes each to add them into the UI. In all cases, any formulas don’t render correctly. I resorted to printing some of these out - more stuff to carry on the flight.

Trying to open a Microsoft Reader ebook on my Pocket PC always yielded a cryptic error. That was user error on my part; I was trying to open the file with the file explorer. On the PocketPc you have to open Microsoft Reader documents from within Microsoft Reader.

I also tried to download mapquest and google maps to the PDA with Sunrise. This just doesn’t work, probably because the maps are powered by something Sunrise can’t spider. Avant go was able to download little peices of the maps I was viewing, but I couldn’t navigate or see as much as I had on the screen on the PC; I resorted to printing the maps out too.
